Yaketa Box
(焼けた) scorched
Clad in black charred timber, this compact rear extension replaces an underused conservatory and reworks the home’s former rear rooms into a light-filled kitchen and dining space at the centre of family life. Though modest in scale, the project has a disproportionate impact, improving movement through the house, increasing natural light, and strengthening the relationship with the garden.
Expressed as a precise contemporary addition, the extension sits confidently alongside the original Victorian brickwork. Slimline glazing and a flush rooflight draw daylight deep into the plan, demonstrating how a small, well-resolved intervention can meaningfully transform how a home is used and enjoyed.
“Hamer Way gave us ideas for our scheme that we hadn’t considered, and assisted in practical matters such as engagement with third-party consultants, building control and suggested specialist suppliers of things such as glazing and timber cladding. Communication has been excellent throughout.”
